Multiplicity Vol.1

Modern and Contemporary Prints and Multiples from Iran

Curated by Yashar Samimi Mofakham

In today’s art world, in addition to the diverse set of media used by artists to create artworks, including painting and sculpting, printmaking, aside from its traditional and classic definitions, interacts with other media, e.g. video, animation, installation, three-dimensional work, painting, digital printing, graffiti, and others, and is among the most popular ways in artistic creation. Besides, whenever one requires a more traditional technique, printmaking provides the artist with a diverse set of tools and techniques, from the oldest to the most recent.

Multiplicity aims to show a brief overview of modern and contemporary prints and multiples in Iran. This exhibition, which is a collaboration between Dastan:Outside and Bread & Salt Projects, presents masterpieces from over 10 Iranian collections, some of which have never been publicly shown in the country, and even found more easily in museums and shows outside of Iran.

Major pieces by artists such as Leily Matine-Daftari, Parvaneh Etemadi, Farideh Lashai, Farah Ossouli, Bahman Mohassess, Sirak Melkonian, Farshid Mesghali, Mohsen Vaziri Moghadam, Parviz Tanavoli, and Charles Hossein Zendehroudi displayed along works by 60 of Iran’s emerging and established artists.

In addition to prints, Multiplicity presents limited-edition portfolios of prints as well as artists' books that have been produced using printmaking techniques and have multiple editions.

This exhibition has been curated by Yashar Samimi Mofakham, curator, collector and archivist.
